We are pleased to announce a webinar featuring the Royal Embassy of Cambodia and Mr. Isawa, former Deputy Director General of ILO Sectoral Policy Bureau *currently at JLEF Foundation. Relationship between Cambodia and Japan
Japan and Cambodia have had a friendly relationship since January 1953, when Japan and Cambodia established formal diplomatic relations. However, both embassies were closed after 1975 during the Pol Pot era, and after the fall of the Pol Pot regime, the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia resumed operations in 1992, and in December 1994, the Embassy of Cambodia in Japan resumed operations. In addition, the number of Cambodian nationals active in Japan has been increasing. Furthermore, Cambodians are expected to play an active role in Japan.

Akira Isawa joined the Ministry of Labour (now the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1980, and was appointed Counsellor to the Cabinet in 2001, and then Director of the Labour Standards Bureau in 2002, Counsellor for Labour-Management Relations in 2003, and Director for International Affairs in 2013. In 2021, he was appointed as International Counsellor at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (Member of the ILO Committee on Freedom of Association).
